The Indoor Temperature Never Reaches What is on the Thermostat? Did you know that the average HVAC system here in Southern California is only performing at 67% of capacity? Normally heating a home here in Southern California is an easy thing to do. Our winters are usually very mild and our furnaces are oversized to accommodate the air conditioning load. So, if your furnace is not able to keep your home at the temperature that you want, you do have a very real problem that we can solve for you. What causes a lack of heating in a functioning home heater? Inadequate gas flow. This usually occurs due a partially shut gas valve or obstruction in the gas line. Many times it is water.
Collapsed gas valve diaphragm in the furnace. Gas valve diaphragms do wear out and can become defective.
  Dirty burners.
  Dirty burner orifices
  Incorrect air fuel mixture
Too small a furnace for the home
  Broken ducting
  Undersized ducting
  Ducting too long
Ducting insulation missing or not present at all
Gaps in the insulation blanket in your attic
Ill-fitting windows and doors leaking air
Open windows. I am writing this web page during the cooling season and I noticed that my air conditioning system wasn't cooling the home upstairs very well. I had just serviced it a couple weeks ago. I went around the home and found windows in my daughters room completely open along with the air vents open in her room as well. You might not think this would be a big deal for the rest of the home, but it is and leaks around windows and doors perform the same phenomenon. The air conditioning a heating vents leading into a bedroom or other room that has a door that can isolate it from the rest of the home are positive pressured by the HVAC system when it is running. This means that any crack, crevices or open windows will be heated or conditioned air from the family furnace to the outside of the home. This air escape creates a negative air environment (vacuum) in the rest of the home. A home cannot exist in a negative air environment. Unconditioned air from outside the home is then drawn into the home wherever is can. Around doors, windows, plumbing openings, electrical openings, down sewer vents, down the water heat flue, down the kitchen range hood and even right through drywall. This leads to contaminated unconditioned air entering the home and stressing the heating and air conditioning system along with your electrical bill, gas bill and health bill.
All of these items with the exception of the doors and windows we perform on a daily basis for our many thousands of clients year round. Calling us to solve your heating and air conditioning problems is a great step to a healthier tomorrow and lower heating and cooling bills. |
